Skin Cancer Detection
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of cancer, with about one million new cases estimated in the U.S. each year. Not only is it the most common skin cancer, but it is the most common of all types of cancer. One in four Americans are likely to develop a basal cell carcinoma. Basal cells line the deepest layer of epidermis. The growths are malignant tumors that arise in this layer of skin. BCCs occur most frequently on sun-exposed regions of the body. Although this skin cancer rarely spreads to other organs of the body (i.e., metastasizes), it can cause destruction of surrounding tissue. 5-10% of BCCs can be resistant to treatment or be locally aggressive, which damages the skin around them and sometimes invades bone and cartilage beneath. They can be difficult to eliminate when not treated quickly. Thus, early detection and treatment are needed.
Botox is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. It is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both severe from lines and crow’s feet lines in adults.
Botox targets the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. These muscles are injected to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will then begin to notice results in 24 to 48 hours, with results lasting up to 4 months. The injection process takes about 10 minutes. Men and women over the age of 30 are typically good candidates for Botox treatment. If you’d like to schedule a consultation for Botox treatment, call Advanced Skin Care of OC at 949-646-9098 and ask to speak to my nurse of 33 years, Tracy Sinclair, RN today.
